What We Collect

FilmDNA collects minimal data to provide personalized film recommendations:

• Your experience level selection
• Films you mark as favorites and dislikes
• Your A/B comparison choices
• Letterboxd watch history (only if you choose to upload it)

How We Use Your Data

Your film preferences are used solely to generate personalized recommendations during your session. We use:

• TMDB API - To fetch film information, posters, and metadata. Your searches are sent to TMDB to provide autocomplete results.
• Claude AI (Anthropic) - To analyze your taste profile and generate recommendations. Your preferences are sent to Claude's API.

Data Storage

FilmDNA does not currently store your data on our servers. Your preferences exist only in your browser during your session and are cleared when you close the page or start over. We do not create user accounts or maintain databases of user preferences.

Letterboxd Import

If you choose to upload your Letterboxd export file, we parse it locally in your browser to extract film titles. This data is used only to exclude films you've already watched from recommendations. The file is not uploaded to our servers or stored anywhere.

Cookies

FilmDNA does not use cookies for tracking or analytics. We may use essential cookies for basic functionality if needed in the future.
